Stretford Memorial Hospital

Client: Promenade Estates

Location: Stretford, Trafford

Services: Project Management, Planning and Funding

Cre8 Land and Planning is instructed by Promenade Estates as part of a team including Buttress and Stephen Levrant Heritage Architecture to prepare and submit a Demolition Prior Notification application for the demolition of most of the former hospital buildings on site with the exception of Basford House a Non-Designated Heritage Assets to facilitate the redevelopment of the site for a mix of c. 65 houses and apartments.

The former Stretford Memorial Hospital site is located on the site of Basford House a former Victorian merchant’s house that was converted into a military hospital during the First World War in 1914 and later a maternity hospital with the facility closing in 2015.

To support the proposals for the demolition of the former hospital buildings extensive technical surveys and reports have been prepared to include building condition, structural, asbestos, heritage and ecology surveys along with a development options review to demonstrate how the site could be redeveloped to support a future planning application.

Extensive consultation was held with Trafford Council and the Prior Notification application was approved in April 2024 with the intention to submit a full planning application for a residential scheme later in 2024.
